Our events so far

Wednesday 25th May 2011 7pm - 9pm - Culture Kitchen at the skylight Cafe,

Saturday 18th June 2011 - 11 - 4pm Vamos and Culture Connect - afternoon of Tapas food and Salsa Dancing.  This was an all day event at Crisis Skylight Cafe in Newcastle. Featuring special Salsa and Zumba classes with Coco Vega and Michelle Houston.
There was also a demonstration by our professional chef and Spanish cook! Our guests then enjoyed their food with live Spanish guitar accompaniment and a glass of sangria.

Saturday 2nd July 2011 - EAT festival and Culture Connect present "The Human Cookbook" This was a free event where people could come and meet with our volunteer chefs, taste their food and find out about their cultures / stories. We provided recipe cards for people to take home so they could cook it themselves. The event was really well attended by people from all over the city as we had been promoting it extensively flyering at the monument in the run up to the event. Feedback was excellent as well. For those interested in reading some of the feedback from our events, this will all be published in our forthcoming report on our 6 month pilot phase

November the 9th and 11th 2011 - YHN Staff Diversity week

Back in the Summer of 2011 we were approached by Rik Simms of YHN who asked us if we would consider providing the food and a couple of activities for the Your Homes Newcastle Staff Diversity Week. This was a big gig for us as it was to take place at their head office (YHN House) where over 400 staff were based. However, our volunteers stepped up to the mark. Delivering over 200 meals throughout the day, as well as providing a series of drum workshops and a cultural fashion show, the feedback from the staff their was overwhelmingly positive. Our volunteers got a lot out of it and really gained the experience of mass catering and working with large volumes of people. We sincerely hope that we will be invited back for future events as we all thoroughly enjoyed the two days and met some very interested and friendly staff.
