Culture Connect invests in new drums
Having successfully delivered drum workshops at the YHN diversity week, we decided that African drumming workshops were something that we would like to do much more of. With the help of our drum instructor Modu and Al Ramsay from Newcastle Roots and Wings we are now the proud owners of around 24 different drums. We must also give a big thanks to Mark Barfoot from Drummed in who was kind enough to lend us the drums we used for the YHN event. Check out the Events Page for details of our first drum workshops that will be coming up very soon along with all our other events fro Spring / Summer 2012. We are all very, very excited (to say the least)!
Culture Connect Starts to Recruit Volunteers
A big recruitment drive is now on to get more volunteers into the organisation. We are looking for people from all backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and with a wide set of skills. If you are interested in finding our more about volunteering for Culture Connect, check out the current roles that we are looking to fill on the Volunteer Opportunities section. We would love to hear from you!
Culture Cooking Schools Coming Soon
One of our latest ventures Culture Cooking School is due to be started soon. Working alongside JET, we were fortunate in gaining some funding to deliver a series of cooking schools in Newcastle. These schools (or one off sessions of around 2 1/2 hours) will allow people to learn how to cook the food from the cultures of our volunteers under the guidance of a profressional catering trainer. We won't say much more about them now, as the final details are still being sorted out, but we can say that they will start in April and we can also say that we anticipate that these sessions will quickly become the most popular aspect our work so we suggest you book in as soon as you can! Keep an eye on the events section for more details.
Culture Kitchen Spring 2012 coming soon!
Our Spring / Summer events will be launched at our second Culture Kitchen that will take place sometime in early April. As before, customers can expect an incredible meal of around 7 different mini courses spanning the globe of multicultural food. Music and other performances as well and a first opportunity to hear about our Spring / Summer events programme. All of our customers will experience service and care to the highest standard and it really will be another night to remember. Tickets will cost 20 pounds and we hope that they will be available for purchase through this website. Keep an eye on the events section!
Your Homes Newcastle Event a huge hit!
Back in the Summer of 2011 we were approached by Rik Simms of YHN who asked us if we would consider providing the food and a couple of activities for the Your Homes Newcastle Staff Diversity Week. This was a big gig for us as it was to take place at their head office (YHN House) where over 400 staff were based. However, our volunteers stepped up to the mark. Delivering over 200 meals throughout the day, as well as providing a series of drum workshops and a cultural fashion show, the feedback from the staff their was overwhelmingly positive. Our volunteers got a lot out of it and really gained the experience of mass catering and working with large volumes of people. We sincerely hope that we will be invited back for future events as we all thoroughly enjoyed the two days and met some very interested and friendly staff.
